Love Where You Live

Ben ThompsonDo you have a plan to love where you live? Kristin and I are in a "5 Year House" - we bought it with the intention of staying for 5 years. Plans do change but the point of this message is to have a plan.

Our priorities of what we want to do to this house are shifting as our family grows and also as the economic winds do change. It all starts for us with a clean legal pad and a cup of coffee or a glass of wine depending on where you think the first conversation will take you. Then we make a list of what we want to change about our home. Then we modify, compromise, and budget our way through our vision and put a time line together. This process has been very good to us over the last 3 years in this home and we've seen major progress in our home. Now to the question: Do I Love Where I Live? Yes. It's not perfect, it's not our forever house, but I love it more every day as we see our common vision accomplished.

Warmly,

Ben Thompson

10 DIY Safety Tips Under $10

Last week I was in a safety seminar that our staff attends annually and as we were moving through slides I grabbed my smartphone and posted these 10 Safety Tips on the Thompson Trio FaceBook page. I have not posted the catastrophic photos that illustrate the importance of these tips as a courtesy. Here they are for the benefit that heightened awareness will bring you.

Safety Tip #1 - Ladder 4:1 Rule - means don't make your ladder angle more than 75 degrees. If your ladder is 10 ft tall, make sure the base of the ladder is at least 2.5 ft from the house.

Safety Tip #2 - Cut away from your body and hands so you don't stab yourself with a utility knife.

Safety Tip #3 - Don't use a flathead screwdriver to pry stuff. Use a flatbar or prybar. Screwdrivers break.

Safety Tip #4 - Duct tape is not a suitable fix for cracked handles on a hammer or sledgehammer handle.

Safety Tip #5 - Spend $10 on safety glasses that are comfortable and may even look semi-cool. If they aren't comfortable... you won't wear them.
